Flea Markets are Like a Box of Chocolates

You know how it is when you get a box of assorted chocolates and there is no key- so you don't know what is what...and sometimes you bite into it and it is awesome and sometimes you bite into it and the inside is gross but you still have the shell...Well, Kane was kinda like that. I mean, it was good, but it wasn't like I got the caramel on the first pick. I still enjoyed the chocolate though...Seems lots of people trick or treated all day and not at Kane....but those who did come, well, they got the BEST PICK of our vintage Christmas....
tree toppers and vintage ornaments
vintage blow molds sold FAST

so many ornaments...

sizes and shapes galore...

The great part of the weekend was, as always, visiting with our fellow dealers ( check out some of their blogs from our list on the sidebar) and admiring their creations and transformations...there is so much talent in the MAIN FOOD BUILDING that you really will not want to miss the last Kane of the year on the first weekend of December....
AND, as always, we LOVE to see our regular customers and meet those of you who read the blog and maybe don't comment...
So, in November, Judy and I will be focusing our creative energies on gathering and creating wonderful things for our December Kane booth....
Hope to see you there!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...in this load for Kane!

Here comes Christmas! My Favorite holiday EVER....Judy and I have been collecting vintage Christmas all year long and we have TONS to sell at Kane this weekend. I just LOVE this pair of vintage ornaments - they look kinda mean in a funny sort of way....

And this blow-mold Sanata is 5 ft tall and genuinely OLD....mostly used inside, the former owners told me....they have had him for 30 years or so....
Make sure you come see us RIGHT AWAY Saturday because you know the good stuff goes quickly...though we do always restock on Sunday :)

We will be moving INSIDE for the winter months...in the

October Kane In Review

Sorry for the delay in getting these October Kane pictures up. I just warmed up enough to move my fingers. (haha) Seriously, it was COLD on Saturday and rainy and yucky. Sunday was better, but still a mud hole. We DID sell some GREAT fall and Halloween items but fell pretty short of our usual sales...Here's a recap...

Judy created this awesome collage...

Scrabble tiles are always fun...

Our junk pumpkin was admired by MANY...and went home with one lucky gal at the end of the day on Sunday....

Our "embellished" family pictures were a HIT- Judy made this one with rhinestone eyes...

This chimney cupboard went home to someone's kitchen...

We sold many parts for people to make their own junk pumpkins...

More family members...

And we are gearing up for a GREAT November Kane. We will be moving back INSIDE the Main Food Building, in the same spot in the middle where we last last March. Just down from Rhubarb Reign.
See you Saturday, HALLOWEEN, 12-5 pm
Sunday, November 1 from 7-4

Kane County this weekend- last one outside!

Ok, well I had hoped to post pictures of some things we're are bringing, but due to rain all week, I've been packing it into the garage...so I guess you'll just have to come and see what we have. This will be our last month OUTSIDE until Spring...so we'll be in the same place as usual, by gate # 3 , with the tan tents and our colorful banner....

Junk Bonanza report # 4 -some FUN chicks

For my last report from Junk Bonanza, I just HAD to introduce you to the wonderful THREE SHABBY CHICKS from Kansas! They had a 7 hour drive to get to the show, pulling a trailer. Judy and I met them in the bar ( that sounds great, I know) at the Canterbury Hotel, when they leaned over to tell us the food was great and big portions. PERFECT! We were starving for steak sandwiches...and then we looked over at them more closely and noticed they were tiny, like size 0 women. So their idea of big portions might have been different from ours...but no worries. They were right. We loved talking with them over dinner and drinks...And I set out to find their booth the next day, to discover they had an "annex." Yup, a dealer moved spaces and these girls were able to display ANOTHER booth with all their stuff. My pictures do NOT give you the full effect- the annex was tans and whites and creams...and other booth was whites, greys, blacks and silver....I could have packed it all up and taken it home!
So here they are- Niki and Robin and Kathi (a friend they brought with them to stand in for Marlo, the 3rd chick who understandably did not come junkin cause she just had a baby)....at their cute little checkout stand...

great shabby posts and fun iron pieces...that grey piece holding the twigs behind the black post is a SPEAKER turned upside down...so clever.

who doesn't love little suitcases and handy little stools?

And scales and pitcher and bowl sets?

And these AWESOME silver sconces that I have NOT stopped wishing I would bought...

So that's our final report for Junk Bonanza. We met great people, had good sales and saw AWESOME talent in all the displays and repurposing...makes your soul smile :)
But enough reminiscing...it's back to work this weekend, selling at Kane. Pictures of some merchandise to be posted on THURSDAY....

Junk Bonanza report #3

Looks are sometimes deceiving. Not in this case. Doesn't this guy look so nice? Well, he is. Believe me. Jim Hahler ( Hahler's Windmill Antiques) had 3 or 4 spaces across from us FULL of great tables he makes out of OLD wood. They sold steadily throughout the Bonanza, as did benches and a few cupboards. THIS table was our favorite. Made from an old apple or grape press, stools fit underneath perfectly. The top is from a solid oak table. It didn't sell, but I tell ya, I was tempted to get rid of my dining room table and get this, until I realized there was NO way I could fit 7 people around it for Christmas! But if you have a wine cellar, fun bar area, winery, etc- you NEED this. I have his phone # so just email me....And THANKS to Jim and his family for all their help at the Bonanza. We were so lucky to be across from you!

Aren't these curtain hook circles great in their new life? Sooo fun, as was the entire booth of Peggy Rodriguez ( Summer Porch Designs) from Lacrosse, Wisconsin. Her booth was ADORABLE in fun bright colors I happen to love. I did not get her picture because she was sooo busy....
Now these girls made us smile. And turns out Anita & Tisha followed similar paths at times. The Pair- also known as Sarah and Dana- make awesome repurposed and fun jewelry and sell it at GREAT PRICES...which is why they were busy as bees. Their camarade in crime is Tisha Burke ( seated) who has a great eye for repurposing wonderful stuff...and she is a chef and she is a florist....Feel inadequate yet? Check out her blog and she what all she's up to....

Now here is trouble x 2! Dave and Tom. Funny thing, that Tom and I had the same brown shirt...he is so stylish...and he does smile, though not so much in this picture where he looks like he is gonna kick my rear :) From Muscatine, Iowa, these guys have been peddling junk for longer than I have been able to drive....having got Ki started on her junk path years ago...While we had met Dave previously, Tom was the legend we had heard about from several others...When these 2 retire, I think they will be Santa and the elf at the mall. Not saying who will be which. Or maybe they'll switch. Genuinely nice guys with great wives... Pleasure to have met ya boys.

Oh yeah, this was the line on day #2. It wound around the outside. Yellow shirts are sooo much nicer for security/helpers, don't ya think? The tall one in the middle ( with his backside facing the camera) is Kevin. He and his friend, the other Kevin, were for hire to help carry stuff out to vehicles. And they helped move stuff in too. We sure appreciated having them around and they helped us out more than once. Thanks Kevin and Kevin- you were great!

Not to worry, I've got one more post left on the Junk Bonanza...Bet ya you will mark it on your calendar next year, won't you?

Junk Bonanza report # 2

I was excited to see the girls from JB Knacker at Junk Bonanza. I knew they were coming, because I read their blog. They had a double booth and it was AWESOME, as I know you will read on lots of other blogs too :). Lots of creative ideas at great prices....So, enough of my babbling, here are pictures of their space, which was in the tent.
They had mannequins and typewriters and flashcards....
don't miss those tiny white boots in the corner :)

I love these pillows and these windows!

Here are Brenda and Jill themselves...stopping on yet another trip out to their trailer to restock ....

Ok, I am not a huge fan of pink ( Judy IS, however) but this is a GREAT idea for a desk missing doors or drawers- and the color looks great- just don't paint your whole HOUSE that color :)

The fringe caught my eye...and I loved the color on the file drawer...

Seriously fun displays....

I loved this chair....

And I know they had good sales because I saw them reshuffling lots...so if you get the chance to make it to their store, you will be soooo happy...
( I blogged about them this Spring too and showed some pictures of their store so you can look at those too...)
Stay tuned for more great vendors and their stuff...I'm just getting the pictures transferred ( 229 of them !)
